On the first Friday morning in December, between seven and nine thousand children attending select* elementary schools will arrive to find their doors and hallways covered in gold tinsel. As they enter their classrooms, their curiosity will turn to sheer excitement as they discover colorful backpacks filled with books and toys. Each classroom will experience a magical visit from St. Nicholas and volunteers will read the legend of caring, sharing and giving embodied in our St. Nicholas story.
*HandsOn Jacksonville targets schools that have 75% or more students on free or subsidized lunch plans. For some, this is the first book they can call their own and perhaps the only toys they will receive during the holiday season.
